At Miniature Trainstore, we are continuously expanding our model railway with new, unique projects. After the castle, it was time for the next challenge: a functional and visually impressive solution for our moving road traffic.
Because, in addition to trains, our layout also features traffic — thanks to the Viessmann Car System. To make this as realistic as possible, we wanted the vehicles to drive all over the layout. But that presented a challenge: how do the vehicles safely cross the tracks?
At one point on the layout, vehicles had to overcome a difference in elevation and cross the tracks. A simple level crossing was not an option for us — we wanted something that would be both technically and visually a real addition to the layout.
That's when the idea for a bridge was born.

Our colleague Leo took the lead on this project and came up with a beautiful concept: a high bridge that guides road traffic over the tracks, inspired by one of the most famous bridges in the Netherlands — the Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam.
This inspiration is clearly reflected in the design, although our version has its own twist, including two masts instead of one.

The project began like any good design: with sketches and determining the correct dimensions. This was followed by the technical elaboration and the setting out of the construction on the layout.
After the preparations, the actual construction began. The first step was placing the tall masts — the base of the bridge structure.
Next, the cables supporting the roadway were installed. This was extremely precise work, where each cable had to be placed at the correct tension and position to make the whole thing realistic and sturdy.

During this process, several colleagues contributed ideas and helped where necessary. The project truly grew into a team effort, utilizing everyone's expertise.
As with all our projects, the real magic lies in the details. The bridge is therefore equipped with:
Streetlights along the roadway for realistic illumination
Working cranes at the masts, complete with cabins and figures
Subtle finishes and paint details for a realistic look
And as the absolute icing on the cake:
👉 Red flashing lights on top of the bridge, intended as a warning for air traffic — a small detail that makes a big difference in the experience.

During the day, the bridge is an impressive part of the layout, but in the dark, the whole thing truly comes to life. The lighting creates atmosphere, depth, and realism — exactly what we want to achieve with our model railway.

Vehicles now drive smoothly over the bridge and cross the tracks in a way that is not only logical but also visually a real eye-catcher.
After weeks of work, the bridge project has been successfully completed. The result is a unique combination of technology, design, and atmosphere, which perfectly fits within our model railway.

Thanks to Leo and the entire Miniature Project team for their dedication, creativity, and craftsmanship!
