Piko 52692/-3 - NS Rh 2200 Red-brown III - Digital DC or AC
The diesel-electric, four-axle bogie locomotives of the 2200 series of the Dutch Railways (NS) characterized the transition from steam to diesel locomotives, with their production years spanning from 1955 to 1958. Together with the 2400 series, 280 units were put into service. With their single-sided cabs and long fronts, the locomotives embodied an American design. However, the NS locomotives were built exclusively by Western European companies. The 100 km/h locomotives could be used not only for freight train and shunting services but were also popular for hauling passenger trains. Up to four 900 hp locomotives were sometimes used in multiple-unit operation for heavy ore trains.
