About the train:
The Netherlands is internationally known for many special things. And that also applies to the Dutch Railways. This company was interested in designing trains with a special 'own' appearance that often caused a stir abroad. When the NS wanted to modernise Intercity traffic in the early 1970s, a particularly unusual train set was designed in collaboration with the German railway material factory Talbot, with the driver's cabins with panoramic views on the roof. This design gave the ICM, as the NS called its new train sets, a particularly unique appearance. And because one could walk through to the next train set at the ends, the modern, sturdy train sets were nicknamed 'Koploper'. The 144 Koplopers quickly determined the image of modern intercity traffic in the Netherlands. When Amsterdam Airport Schiphol was connected to the railway network in 1986, the NS had two train sets painted in the colours of both national airlines. ICM 4011 was dressed in the livery of the Royal Dutch Airlines KLM. With the driver's cabin on the roof, the Koploper strongly resembled the famous Jumbojet. ICM 4012 simultaneously drove through the country in the white-red colours of Martinair Holland and also caused a great sensation as a streamlined 'airplane on rails'.
