About the locomotives - for the enthusiast
Vackage with two electric locomotives, the Da 903 of the SJ and the Ce 6/8 III 14305 Crocodile of the SBB. This special encounter of two cult locomotives takes place during the big anniversary celebration on September 12/13, 2015, in Gävle, Sweden, to mark the 100th anniversary of electric standard gauge operation in Sweden. Ultimately, the line of the Swedish ore railway between Kiruna and Riksgränsen was electrified as early as 1915. In honor of this anniversary, an gathering of mostly Swedish electric locomotives will take place at the railway museum in Gävle. A particular highlight will be the visit of the Swedish Crocodile Ce 6/8 III 14305 from SBB Historic. The locomotive will be transported from Olten (Switzerland) via Rostock and Trelleborg to Ängelholm, Sweden. From there, it will pull special trains to Gävle under its own power on September 6 and 7. A special trip from Stockholm to Gävle will follow on the anniversary Saturday. The return journey to Switzerland will begin on September 15 and 16, also with special trains from Stockholm via Malmö to Ängelholm. At the anniversary in Gävle, the "Crocodile" will meet, among others, a Swedish cult locomotive, the electric rod locomotive Da 903. This one has been specially painted pine green for Märklin and now matches the legendary historical Märklin model 3019 in terms of color scheme. The Ce 6/8 III 14305 originated from the second series of Gotthard freight train locomotives, as the constantly increasing capacity in freight traffic necessitated the SBB in 1926/27 to acquire another 18 "Crocodiles" as Ce 6/8III 14301-14318. These had a higher output of 1,809 instead of 1,647 kW, and the bogie was now equipped with the Winterthur diagonal rod drive with blind axle. In the mid-1950s, their top speed could be increased from 65 to 75 km/h, and they were logically renamed Be 6/8III 13301-13318. Of a later date are the Swedish electric rod locomotives of the Da series. Due to the growing need for electric machines as a result of more electrified lines, the SJ urgently needed more machines in the late 1940s. Thus, the company decided to revive the proven, but technically already outdated, D series as an electric locomotive with rod drive and wheelset code 1'C1'. The actual construction of the new "Da" series corresponded to that of its predecessors: The locomotive was driven by two 1-phase motors with series excitation, which operated via a drive on the blind axle between the three driven wheelsets. These were connected to the driven blind axle via coupling rods. New were the driven wheelsets, the bearings, and the traction motors. The now rubber-sealed windows created a more modern appearance. Between 1953 and 1960, ASEA built 93 units. In the late 1980s, SJ began to decommission the locomotives, and by the mid-1990s, with only a few exceptions, they ended up in the scrapyard. Some units have survived to this day in museums and with private railways.
