Product description

ESU - 58449 - LokSound 5 DCC/MM/SX/M4 - 21MTC - Empty - with speaker - H0

The LokSound 5 is the flagship member of the LokSound family. By combining the digital decoder and sound module on a single circuit board, we achieve the smallest possible dimensions of just 30 mm x 15.5 mm. This allows it to fit in virtually any H0 or 0 gauge locomotive.

LokSound 5 decoders are available with all common interfaces and are supplied with a sugar cube speaker (11 mm x 15 mm) and a sound housing.

The LokSound 5 DCC is designed for the North American and Australian markets. It's a pure DCC decoder that supports RailComPlus and can also be used on DC layouts. Please note: The LokSound 5 DCC decoder does not come with a speaker.

Modes

Like all products in the LokSound family, the LokSound 5 is a true multi-protocol decoder. It supports DCC as well as Motorola®, Selectrix®, and M4. Naturally, it supports 14 to 128 speed steps, 2- and 4-digit addresses in DCC format, and up to 32 functions. Thanks to RailComPlus®, the decoders automatically register with suitable control centers.

This decoder supports all DCC programming modes, and thanks to RailCom®, you can read the CV values on the main control panel, provided you have a control panel that supports RailCom®. There are utility registers for control panels that only allow programming of CVs from 1 to 255.

Motorola® users benefit from up to 28 speed steps for 255 addresses. Three additional Motorola® addresses facilitate the activation of 16 functions. An integrated programming mode even allows programming with the familiar 6021 central unit.

The M4 protocol supports automatic registration on mfx®-compatible central units.

The LokSound 5 decoder supports Märklin® brake sections as well as ZIMO® HLU brake commands or the Lenz® ABC system. Braking with DCC brake generators or direct current is also possible. Furthermore, the locomotive comes to a stop with LokSound when a Selectrix® brake diode is connected to the circuit. The ABC push-pull function enables automatic commuting between two stations.

The LokSound 5 decoder is also suitable for analogue DC and AC (!) layouts.

Features

We understand that you want to display your locomotives as realistically as possible. Therefore, we have integrated numerous function outputs. Depending on the interface type, each LokSound 5 has at least 10 amplified outputs. Decoders with a PluX22 or 21MTC interface have an additional 4 outputs for controlling servos or as logic outputs. Naturally, all important lighting functions are supported. The brightness of each output can be adjusted individually. The decoder supports the automatic push and pull movements – the so-called coupling roll – required for the reliable operation of digital couplings such as those from ROCO® and Krois®, as well as Telex® couplings.

Sound

The LokSound 5 decoder can play up to 10 channels simultaneously. Each channel offers up to 16 bits/31250 kHz, finally achieving high-fidelity sound quality on your model railway. In practice, there's no audible difference from the original. A Class D audio amplifier with an output power of up to 3 W powers the speakers with a permitted impedance of 4-32 ohms. The enormous 128 MBit audio memory guarantees sufficient storage capacity.

The volume of each individual sound fragment is individually adjustable. The highly flexible sound engine, without a rigid flowchart, allows for a prototype simulation of all conceivable rail vehicles. Three separately adjustable braking functions and two alternative loading scenarios offer you maximum control over your vehicles.

Motor control

The motor control of the LokSound 5 has been further improved. A variable PWM pulse frequency from 10 kHz to 50 kHz ensures perfectly quiet operation, especially with coreless motors. The typical humming noise is now a thing of the past. The load control can now be adjusted with up to 10 individual CVs, thus handling even the most demanding applications. The unique "Auto Tune" function enables automatic calibration of the decoder, ensuring it is perfectly matched to the motor. The LokSound 5 decoder delivers a maximum motor current of 1.5 A, which is more than sufficient even for older motor types.
