Some information about prototype and model

At the end of the 1940s, the Deutsche Reichsbahn had a fragmented locomotive fleet, which, due to aging and poor condition, did not allow for economical train operations. This situation was particularly true for branch lines. Based on this, the DR in 1950 commissioned LEW Hennigsdorf to develop a modern steam locomotive for branch lines. However, another 5 years would pass until the prototype of the new BR 83 10 was delivered. Already during the test runs, constructive defects and problems in production quality emerged. However, because the delivery of the series locomotives began shortly thereafter, not all desired changes could be implemented. By October 1955, 25 machines were put into service and stationed in the Halle/Saale and Magdeburg directorates. In their core area of use, the machine service on branch lines, the 83 10 often convinced with at least impressive running power, very good acceleration, and quiet running. The idea of reducing downtime in repair shops through large stocks can also be considered successful. The interesting construction, which proved to be absolutely better than its reputation in operational service, set an important milestone in the history of the Deutsche Reichsbahn. The last examples were decommissioned in 1972.

The 83.10 from PIKO is another newly shaped steam locomotive. It is thus already the second steam locomotive in the PIKO Expert series. As a visual feast for the eyes, the 83.10 features various attached parts, such as many fine pipes, smoke deflectors, bell, whistle, covers on the water tanks, dynamo, steps to the buffer beam, ladders, handrails, heating pipes, and sand pipes. The complex rod drive of the locomotive, made of metal, is lovingly reproduced. Spotless spoked wheels create joy at the sight of it. Even when stationary, the BR 83.10 is an eye-catcher.
The powerful motor with 2 built-in traction tires ensures sufficient drive. Analog models can be playfully digitized via a PluX22 interface. Subsequent installation of sound is also prepared. Additionally, two sound versions and an AC version will appear, which are already equipped with an mfx-compatible decoder from the factory.

Inside, the BR 83.10 from PIKO not only carries proven technology but also provides views into the cab, with a replicated interior. This can be digitally switched and illuminated. The same applies to the running gear. Even more realism is provided by the DC and AC versions in sound execution with a factory-installed smoke unit.

With the 83 10, PIKO offers a frequently requested model for the first time in large series in the well-known PIKO quality.

The 83.10 from PIKO deserves its well-deserved fan base from the start. For friends of steam traction, the model is indispensable. In the Era IV version, the new locomotive remains versatile and can be ideally supplemented with existing rolling stock of carriages and wagons.
