Novelty 2026: Between 1946 and 1989, the diesel-electric locomotives of the 500 class determined daily operations at the Dutch Railways (NS). In total, there were 45 machines in service - reliable, powerful and unmistakable. The first ten units (Nos. 501-510) arrived in the Netherlands directly after World War II via the British Ministry of War. The striking grey three-axle locomotives quickly became indispensable helpers in shunting operations - particularly at large stations such as Utrecht, Zwolle and Rotterdam Feijenoord. Due to their great reliability, NS soon expanded its fleet: another 35 locomotives (Nos. 511-545) followed, initially in classic olive green and from the 1970s in modern yellow-grey.
