About the locomotive (for the enthusiast ;) )
The "Iron," or simply the E10.3: Hardly any other locomotive type has left such a mark on the Bundesbahn's heyday from the 1960s onward as the elegant, streamlined E10.3. Its impressive history began in the 1950s when the young Bundesbahn invested heavily in electrification of the network and ordered a large number of powerful and fast E10s. The first series (E10.0 and E10.1) still had a clumsy, square superstructure. But in 1962, the first example with aerodynamically shaped fronts appeared. Its striking design with the "handle" in the center quickly earned the model, classified as the E10.3, the nickname "Bügelfalte" (Iron). For decades, the E10s were the workhorses of the DB's high-quality passenger services, and the "Strijkijzer" (Street Iron) was certainly one of the stars of the German railways during that time. From the 1990s onward, the E10s were moved to regional service, where they also provided reliable service. It wasn't until 2013 that the last "Strijkijzers," with several million kilometers on the odometer, were scrapped.
