About the VT 18.16 - A trainset for Central Germany
Elegant, fast and luxurious: The Görlitz express train set once meant a new travel experience on the railways. It was the showpiece of the Deutsche Reichsbahn of the GDR, caused an international sensation and not only filled the railway staff with pride. Three of these ivory/red-coloured showpieces have been preserved. Since 2003, not a single one has been in service. The beautiful sets stood unprotected in the open air in the weather and were slowly in danger of rotting. Then a group of former Reichsbahn employees and other enthusiasts came up with a plan and founded an interest group (gGmbH) in 2019. Since then, no expense or effort has been spared to restore a complete train set to its former glory with great expertise. The aim is to make this legend ready for service again. The motto of this project is "A train for Central Germany". This expresses the connection with this region. As a 'representative in Europe', this top seller is intended to remind us of the era of luxurious international trains. With the new Märklin model you can recreate a journey in the period when impressive express trains such as the SVT Görlitz operated services with beautiful names such as the Neptun to Copenhagen, the Vindebona to Vienna or the Karlex to the beautiful Kurort Karlsbad.
