The merger of the Dutch freight transport sector with the German Railion Group gave DB AG access to several NS Class 1600 electric locomotives. In 2012, ten locomotives were repainted in traffic red as part of maintenance. At the initiative of several drivers, the last three locomotives were provided with farewell messages at the end of their service with DB Coachgo NL in 2020.
